This self-released recording marks trumpeter/composer Darren Johnston's first as a leader, going all the way back to 2003.

"The UBF sound is eclectic - it’s members are equally at home performing Bach chorales, Angolan protest songs, avant-rock, afro-beat, brass band music from the Balkans, New Orleans “second line”, be-bop or free jazz. A “typical” UBF show is a celebration of contrasts."

My musical interests rotate mostly around playing lots and lots of trumpet, composing instrumental music, writing and singing songs, and performing all styles of jazz, chamber music, experimental and purely improvised music, as well as traditional music of the Balkans, Greece, and Macedonia.
